Triceps

Diamond Push-Up

Intermediate Bodyweight Compound Triceps

How to do it

  1. Set up in a high plank and bring your hands together under your chest so thumbs and index fingers form a triangle.

  2. Brace abs and glutes so the body is one straight line from head to heels.

  3. Lower your chest toward your hands while keeping the elbows tucked close to the ribs, not flared.

  4. Stop when your chest lightly touches the back of your hands, then press until the elbows straighten.

  5. Squeeze the triceps for a second at the top before the next rep.

Common mistakes

  • Flaring the elbows out so the triceps stop being the prime mover.

  • Piking the hips to shorten the distance you have to travel.

  • Grinding through wrist pain; use push-up bars if the position hurts.

  • Lowering toward the stomach instead of down to the lower chest.

Tips

  • Too hard? Do it with your hands on a bench and feet on the floor.

  • Works well as a triceps finisher at the end of a push day.
