Glutes

Hip Abduction

Beginner Machine Isolation Glutes

How to do it

  1. Sit in the abduction machine with your back flat against the pad.

  2. Place the outside of your thighs against the pads and set a comfortable starting width.

  3. Hold the side handles and brace your core.

  4. Push your thighs apart as far as comfortable while squeezing the side glutes.

  5. Hold one second in the open position, then return slowly.

Common mistakes

  • Slamming the pads open and letting them snap closed.

  • Leaning forward just to use a heavier stack.

  • Using a tiny range so the glutes never really work.

Tips

  • Lean slightly forward to bias the upper glutes.

  • Sets of 15-20 with a pause at the top work best here.
