Chest
How to do it
-
Find a stable waist-high surface: a bench, a box, or a rack edge that will not slide.
-
Place your hands slightly wider than shoulder width on the edge of the surface.
-
Walk your feet back until your body is one straight line, abs and glutes braced.
-
Lower your chest to the edge under control for 2 seconds, elbows about 45 degrees from your torso.
-
Press back up until the elbows straighten without letting the hips drop first.
Common mistakes
-
Using a surface that can move, like a chair on wheels.
-
Choosing a surface so high that there is almost no load left.
-
Letting the hips sag because the core is not braced.
-
Cutting the range so the chest stops well short of the edge.
Tips
-
Lower the surface a little each week until you are ready for floor push-ups.
-
Also a great warm-up set before heavy bench pressing.
