Lower Back

Reverse Hyperextension

Intermediate Machine Isolation Lower Back

How to do it

  1. Lie face down on a high bench or reverse hyper machine and grip the handles.

  2. Let both legs hang straight down.

  3. Raise your legs behind you until level with your torso.

  4. Lower under control — do not let them swing freely.

Common mistakes

  • Swinging with momentum so the lower back takes a jolt.

  • Going past parallel until the lower back over-arches.

Tips

  • Stop right at parallel — higher adds nothing.

  • Without the machine, a tall flat bench works fine.
