Calves

Seated Calf Raise

Beginner Machine Isolation Calves

How to do it

  1. Sit in the machine and set the pads right above your knees.

  2. Put the balls of your feet on the edge of the platform with heels hanging free.

  3. Release the safety and drop your heels as low as they will go.

  4. Press up on your toes until the calves fully contract.

  5. Pause at the top, lower slowly, and repeat without bouncing.

Common mistakes

  • Pads set too far from the knee so they slide as you press.

  • Fast bouncy reps that use tendons instead of muscle.

  • Moving the heels only a couple of centimetres.

Tips

  • The seated version targets the soleus under the main calf muscle.

  • Pair it with standing calf raises for complete calf development.
