Side Plank

Beginner Bodyweight Isolation Obliques

How to do it

  1. Lie on your side with your elbow directly under your shoulder.

  2. Stack your feet, or stagger the top foot slightly forward for balance.

  3. Lift your hips until your body is straight from head to feet.

  4. Rest the top hand on your waist or point it at the ceiling.

  5. Hold for the target time, then switch sides.

Common mistakes

  • Hips slowly sinking without you noticing.

  • Torso rotating forward or backward.

  • Letting the supporting shoulder shrug up to the ear.

Tips

  • Easier version: bend the knees and support on the bottom knee.

  • Match the hold time on both sides to stay balanced.
