Calves

Single-Leg Calf Raise

Beginner Bodyweight Isolation Calves

How to do it

  1. Stand on one foot at the edge of a step with the heel hanging off.

  2. Hold a wall or post only as much as balance requires.

  3. Rise as high as you can on that one foot.

  4. Lower the heel below the level of the step, then repeat.

Common mistakes

  • Leaning too hard on your hands so the load shifts off the calf.

  • Bouncing at the bottom instead of lifting from a dead stop.

Tips

  • Great for evening out a strength difference between sides.

  • Needs no equipment — easy to do at home.
