Quads

Split Squat

Beginner Dumbbell Compound Quads

How to do it

  1. Hold a dumbbell in each hand and step one foot forward a long stride.

  2. Lower your back knee straight down until it nearly touches the floor.

  3. Keep your torso upright with your weight on the front leg.

  4. Push through the front foot to rise. Finish all reps, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

  • A stride that is too short, pushing the front knee far past the toes.

  • Leaning forward and pushing with the back leg.

Tips

  • The easiest lunge variation — your feet stay put, so it is more stable.

  • Log the weight per dumbbell in the app.
