Abs

Reverse Crunch

Beginner Bodyweight Isolation Abs

How to do it

  1. Lie on your back with your arms at your sides or holding a bench overhead.

  2. Raise your legs so the thighs are vertical and the knees bent to 90 degrees.

  3. Exhale as you curl your pelvis toward your chest.

  4. Lift your hips a few centimetres off the floor instead of just swinging the legs.

  5. Lower slowly until your hips touch down again, then repeat.

Common mistakes

  • Swinging the legs with momentum and never lifting the pelvis.

  • Letting the lower back arch as the legs come down.

  • Pulling with the hip flexors instead of the lower abs.

Tips

  • Press your lower back into the floor for the whole set.

  • Ten to fifteen slow reps beat thirty fast ones.
