Triceps Dips

Intermediate Bodyweight Compound Triceps

How to do it

  1. Get on the dip bars, lock your arms out and press your shoulders down away from your ears.

  2. Keep your torso as upright as possible with your feet crossed behind you.

  3. Lower yourself until the elbows reach about 90 degrees, elbows tucked close.

  4. Pause briefly when the upper arms are just about parallel to the floor.

  5. Push back up to straight arms without shrugging at the top.

Common mistakes

  • Sinking too deep and overstretching the front of the shoulder.

  • Leaning forward so the chest takes over the work.

  • Kicking the legs to help yourself up.

  • Letting the shoulders shrug up at the bottom.

Tips

  • Not strong enough yet? Use the assisted dip machine or a band.

  • Too easy? Add load with a dip belt.

  • Upright torso hits triceps, leaning forward hits chest.
