Triceps Pushdown (Rope)

Beginner Cable Isolation Triceps

How to do it

  1. Attach a rope to the high pulley and hold both ends with palms facing each other.

  2. Stand with a slight forward lean and your elbows pinned to your ribs.

  3. Push the rope down until the arms lock out while spreading the rope ends apart.

  4. Squeeze the triceps for a beat at the bottom.

  5. Return slowly until your forearms are just above parallel to the floor.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the elbows flare out so the chest and shoulders push instead.

  • Bending over and using bodyweight to drive the rope down.

  • Never fully extending the arms at the bottom.

Tips

  • Think of your elbows as hinges nailed to your ribs.

  • Split the rope at the bottom for a fuller triceps contraction.
