Front Delts

Front Raise

Beginner Dumbbell Isolation Front Delts

How to do it

  1. Stand tall with a pair of dumbbells in front of your thighs, palms facing your body.

  2. Brace the abs and glutes so the torso cannot swing.

  3. Raise one arm straight forward to shoulder height with a slight bend in the elbow.

  4. Hold for a second at the top without shrugging into your ears.

  5. Lower slowly over 2-3 seconds, then alternate with the other arm.

Common mistakes

  • Swinging the hips to throw the dumbbell forward.

  • Raising well above shoulder height so the traps take over.

  • Going heavy enough that the lower back arches backward.

  • Dropping the arm without controlling the descent.

Tips

  • Front delts already get plenty of work from all your pressing, so 2-3 sets is enough.

  • Try a neutral grip with palms facing each other if the shoulder pinches.
