Abs

Hanging Leg Raise

Intermediate Bodyweight Isolation Abs

How to do it

  1. Hang from a bar with a shoulder-width grip and your shoulders pulled down.

  2. Brace your core so your body does not swing.

  3. Raise both legs straight in front until they are at least parallel to the floor.

  4. Curl your pelvis up slightly at the top of the movement.

  5. Lower under control until the legs hang straight again, no swinging.

Common mistakes

  • Swinging the body to fling the legs up.

  • Only lifting the knees and never curling the pelvis.

  • Hanging with loose shoulders and straining the joint.

  • Dropping the legs fast at the end of each rep.

Tips

  • Easier version: hanging knee raises with the legs bent.

  • Use straps if your grip gives out before your abs do.
