Front Delts

Landmine Press

Intermediate Barbell Compound Front Delts

How to do it

  1. Wedge one end of a barbell into a landmine or a corner and load plates on the free end.

  2. Stand or half-kneel facing the bar and hold its end with one hand at shoulder height.

  3. Brace the abs and glutes, chest up, feet stable at hip width.

  4. Press the bar up and forward on its arc until the elbow is nearly straight, keeping the torso from twisting.

  5. Lower the bar under control back to the front of your shoulder.

  6. Finish all reps on one side, then switch hands.

Common mistakes

  • Rotating the torso with the press so the waist ends up doing the work.

  • Leaning back to help the bar up.

  • Loading so heavy that the press turns into a heave.

  • Shrugging into the ears at lockout.

Tips

  • The angled path is shoulder-friendly, a great pick when overhead pressing hurts.

  • The half-kneeling version removes leg drive and makes the core work.
