Standing Calf Raise

Beginner Machine Isolation Calves

How to do it

  1. Stand in the machine with the pads on your shoulders and the balls of your feet on the edge.

  2. Straighten your knees and brace your core.

  3. Drop your heels as low as possible until the calves stretch fully.

  4. Press up onto your toes as high as you can.

  5. Hold for one second at the top, then lower for a two-count.

Common mistakes

  • Bouncing out of the bottom without a pause.

  • Bending the knees to help push up.

  • Using a short range because the load is too heavy.

Tips

  • Calves respond best to 12-20 reps with slow, deliberate tempo.

  • Pause two seconds in the bottom stretch position.
