Triceps Pushdown (Bar)

Beginner Cable Isolation Triceps

How to do it

  1. Attach a straight or short EZ bar to the high pulley.

  2. Grip the bar shoulder-width with palms facing down.

  3. Lock your elbows at your sides, brace your core, feet hip-width.

  4. Press the bar down until the arms are fully straight.

  5. Return slowly until you feel a stretch in the triceps, then repeat.

Common mistakes

  • Driving the bar down with the shoulders.

  • Bouncing slightly to start each rep.

  • Letting the wrists break under heavy loads.

Tips

  • The bar version lets you load heavier than the rope version.

  • Pause for a full count at the bottom to lock in the contraction.
