Beginner Bodyweight Isolation Abs

How to do it

  1. Set your elbows directly under your shoulders with forearms flat on the floor.

  2. Extend your legs back onto your toes, feet about hip-width apart.

  3. Squeeze your abs and glutes until your body is a straight line from head to heels.

  4. Tuck your pelvis slightly so the lower back does not sag.

  5. Hold the position and keep breathing normally for the target time.

Common mistakes

  • Hips sagging so the lower back arches.

  • Hips piked up into a tent position.

  • Holding your breath the whole time.

  • Dropping or craning the head and straining the neck.

Tips

  • Twenty perfect seconds beats two minutes with sagging hips.

  • Too easy? Lift one foot at a time for five seconds each.
